Morten Lauridsen
is giving the commencement address at Westminster right now.
slightly dying. omg.
The truth hurts, but it doesn’t kill. Lies may please, but they don’t heal.
i don’t do this often…
buuuuuuuuuuut i am really nostalgic and sentimental right now and want to talk about how much i love my school and my art.
today the freshman choir had their last concert. it was really special because it was performed specifically for alumni of westminster.
the closing piece, “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” was, as always, the most moving.
to see over 100 alumni stand up and sing with us was incredible. it’s like the gap between the past of westminster and the future of westminster was bridged. looking into the eyes of the faces that had once been in my shoes was breathtaking. it’s like time stopped and all we had was music. we sang into them and they into us. making music for people is one thing, but to make music with people is another. it’s the simplest act that bonds generations.
to see little groups of alumni taking pictures, reminiscing, holding hands, laughing. that will be me one day.
one woman i talked to said “don’t blink when you’re here. it goes by too fast and if you close your eyes for one second you will miss so much. write things down so you’ll remember when you’re my age.”
i usually write a lot of things down, but after what she said to me, i will be making sure i write down every little magical thing that happens here.
